The Vari-Spin 1200 has unique variable speed drives for each set of spindles, and both are independent from the turret drive.  This allows for precise flanging control, and the ability to flange different diameter ends of a container, such as necked-down styles.  Nothing is tied to fixed gearing and restricted spindle revolutions.

Variable speed flanging control, together with integrated limit rings provide a more positive approach to flange with control and flange consistency, with the potential cost savings achieved through use of thinner, harder materials.  With the use of the patented limit ring, the consistency between the reformed plug diameter and flange width to plug variance can be maintained at ±.002 inches (0.051mm) on two-piece containers.

Due to the method of the variable speed heads, the incidence of split flanges common to Die Flangers and Fixed-Speed Spin Flangers is reduced.  This is true with the work hardened double reduced plate on necked-in containers too.

Each head has precision-machined tooling cartridges that are easily removed for maintenance or change-overs.  They also quickly adjusted to give micro-adjustments to the can/flange heights.

The Vari-Spin Flanger comes with an independent machine turret drive and spindle drives.  This provides an infinitely variable spindle speed to meet the requirements of the container.  Due to the neck of a container, there may be a higher rate of revolution to feed required.

The Flanger is enclosed in a soundproof enclosure, and is fitted with a PanelMate 1770 Graphic Operator Station.  This allows the selection of a sequentail can sample, single station testing, feedrate adjustment, spindle and turret speed adjustment, production time and count data, and standard machine control functions.  These are controlled through the Allen Bradley SLC 5/03 Programmable Controller.  The programmable inverters provide adjustable speed, acceleration, and dynamic braking.  Timing belts ensure synchronized drives of all functions, low noise levels, and minimum maintenance.

The Vari-Spin Flanger is manufactured in 4, 6, or 8-spindles for speeds of 400, 800, or 1200 cans per minute depending on the container size.
